Cookeville will gradually implement a new city logo after using the former logo for the past 20 years.
City Manager James Mills said the council wanted to ensure the new city seal was included in the logo. The logo includes the seal and reads “City of Cookeville Tennessee” in bold, red lettering. Police, Fire, and the Department of Energy will all have their department seals in place of the city seal.
“This will be a slow transition,” Mills said. “We will not go out and replace every vehicle sticker. So as we get new vehicles, we’ll use the new seal. As we change business cards and order new business cards when we run out, I want this transition to be slow.”
Mills said a local business designed the logo along with the seal for the new Cookeville Department of Energy. Mayor Laurin Wheaton said she is excited for the city to become even more recognizable.
“I’m really excited about this,” Wheaton said. “I think, you know, with the updates we’re doing, getting to incorporate the seal, this really looks great, and I’m excited to see this on the new trucks that we’re getting.”
Wheaton said the decision to create a new logo stemmed from the city’s plans to redo the Cookeville website. She said in looking at the old logo, the council decided they wanted to showcase the city seal and have a fresh, new look to the new website.
“I think it shows that we take pride in how proud we are of our city by taking a little time to create a really pretty, to me, logo,” Wheaton said.
She said she thinks the logo will look great on new trucks, t-shirts, and stationary as it is phased in over time.
