Cookeville To Select Contractor For Police Headquarters

Cookeville City Council will officially select a general contractor for the new police department Thursday.

Police Chief Randy Evans said he’ll ask the council select the low bid from W&O Construction.

“We received bids from all four of the pre-qualified bidders, The bids ranged from $1.2 million and W&O’s construction bid was $632,525,” Evans said. “As we move forward, they’ll complete the design phase and pre-construction documents. We plan on actually starting construction no later than December 20th.”

Evans said the projected completion date for the 39,000 square foot facility would be 70 weeks later.

“We may get started a little sooner if weather holds out,” Evans said. “Bottom line, were going to recommend W&O Construction as the lowest bidder.”

The city will build the new police headquarters at the northeast corner of Neal Street and Old Walton Road. Construction will cost an estimated $14 million.
