Cookeville To Repair Boyd Farris Slope Failure Through USDA Relief

Cookeville City Council has approved an agreement with the USDA to make slope repairs stemming from severe flooding last February.

Greg Brown serves as the city’s public works director.

“It’ll provide federal assistance to repair the slope failure we had on Boyd Farris Road between the road and Falling Water River,” Brown said. “It’ll help remove the slide that went out into the river as well as make a permanent slope repair in that area.”

Brown said the public works department made temporary repairs when the damage occurred prior to Council approving the agreement.

“We placed rip-rap along the slope to try to stabilize it,” Brown said. “We didn’t do anything where the slide went into the river, just the side of the road. We tried to repair that to keep it from failing any further.”

The total cost to make slide repairs on Boyd Farris Road will be just over $81,000 based on USDA estimates. The agreement requires a 25-percent match from the City of Cookeville at approximately $20,100.
