The Cookeville City Council will consider purchasing a new pumper fire truck when they meet Thursday night.
Fire Chief Daryl Blair said the truck under consideration will provide more space and better safety for his firefighters.
“30-percent more compartment space, which is a big asset to us because over the years we have grown and provided more services,” Blair said.
Blair said the new truck would also come equipped with full airbag systems all the way through the cab.
If the council votes to purchase the truck for $469,650 it would replace a 1990 model truck.
