The Parkview skate park project has suffered a slight delay.
Cookeville Leisure Services Director Rick Woods said estimates for the pool house renovations came in too high for the city’s budget, forcing them to reconfigure their TDEC grant.
“We’re waiting for that before we can move forward with the bidding of the project,” Woods said. “But we’re well on track to make that happen and we’re excited about it.”
Woods said he had hoped the park would be open by this summer.
“We’re going to be a little bit behind that, I’m afraid,” Woods said. “But we’re excited about the project and the design looks great. Grindline Skateparks has done a terrific job with the design and I’m excited about it.”
Woods said he is unsure as to when the park will be completed or when groundbreaking will take place. The project has completed the design phase and is being prepared for bidding.
“It’s so hard to say when we will have it completed,” Woods said. “There are a lot of variables in that. I’m hesitant to say it’s going to be done by this date, or that we’re going to be breaking ground on it by this date, because we haven’t been able to send the project out for bids.”
Woods said the park will be a concrete park with bowls, street elements, railing, and various types of transitions.
