Cookeville Seeking Bids For Sale And Removal Of Homes On Recently-Purchased Property

City of Cookeville requesting bids from individuals interested in purchasing and removing homes from properties on Old Bridge Road and Old Sparta Road.

The city purchased almost 100 acres of land in the area last year. City Manager James Mills said after evaluating the properties, it was determined it would be more beneficial to have the homes sold rather than demolishing them or cutting the properties from the land.

“We have no need for either of these structures in terms of our potential plans, in fact it may hamper our future use,” Mills said. “Our first option would be to tear them down in just demo them and remove the debris but if there’s any value and someone wants to buy it and relocate it and the city recoup some of those costs, then that’s actually a better option for the city.”

Mills said the removal of the homes is not pertinent to the next steps in the aquatics facility. He said because the aquatics facility is not necessarily a high priority right now for the current council, this is more about making the land more developable.

“If and when it becomes a priority then the home on Old Sparta Road would have to be removed,” Mills said. “And there are about 16 acres there and the home on Old Sparta, and that location is probably one of the better locations on that property and so the home would have to be removed if we wanted to use it for another purpose.”

Mills said the bidders would be responsible for purchasing the home and moving it to its new location. He said the submission deadline for bids is February 13th at 10 a.m.
