Cookeville Roundabout Continues To Be Closed

Cookeville residents will have to wait a little while longer for the roundabout to open up between Lee Seminary Road and Highlands Park Boulevard.

Public Works officials said the roundabout will have to be reconstructed to design standards before it can be opened. Public Works Director Greg Brown said the construction on the roundabout can’t happen until Lee Seminary Road gets connected to Tennessee Avenue, or the old Bennett Road.

“The problem is that Lee Seminary Road is not connected to Tennessee Avenue yet, so there’s nowhere for them to go,” Brown said. “We are having to wait for them to do that so we will have somewhere for the truck traffic to go while we complete the roundabout. As soon as that gets done, we should be able to start reconstructing the roundabout.”

Brown said the roundabout had to be modified during the construction of Academy Sports in order to allow smoother truck traffic on Highlands Park Boulevard.
