The Cookeville-Putnam County Visitor’s Bureau has launched a grant-funded market imitative to bring more traffic into Cookeville.
Director of Tourism Shan Stout said a new billboard has been placed between I-40 exits 288 and 290 advertising its Visit Cookeville shop.
“The goal is to navigate traffic from a two-hour radius, so that way people coming in from the Smokies or coming in from Nashville will help navigate them to the visitor’s shop to help them potentially have a more extended stay,” Stout said.
Stout said several other directional signs have been installed in the city to direct more people to Westside Cookeville. Stout said she believes visitors will stay in Cookeville longer if their first stop is the shop where they can find brochures of local attractions.
Stout said once people arrive to the shop, a kiosk has been set up asking how tourists heard about Cookeville. Stout said the feedback will be used to determine if the billboards are successful.
Stout said this is the first time that the Visitor’s Bureau has tried billboards for advertising.
