Cookeville Public Works Leaf Pick Up Begins Monday

Cookeville’s Public Works Department beginning its annual leaf pick-ups Monday.

Director Blake Mayo said the department is asking folks to keep their leaf piles as close to the road as possible and away from any mailboxes or utility poles.

“The leaf pickup will just be loose leaves that are in piles and we’ll come up with the leaf vacuums and the vacuum trucks and we’ll vacuum those leaves up,” Mayo said. “Keep sticks out of there as it can damage the hoses and the machines.”

For bagged leaves, Mayo said citizens can call the department and ask for pick up. He said they ask for no sticks and leaves only in those bags as well.

Mayo said the department tries to make its rounds every three to four weeks, depending on work loads. He said leaf pick-up with run until March 15th.
