Cookeville Property Tax Payment Options Before Deadline

Cookeville property tax notices are out and residents have plenty of options to pay before next year.

City Clerk Darian Coons said payment by mail, drop box, in office and online are all accepted. Coons said the time is now to get in touch if a new property owner did not receive a notice.

“We always encourage folks if you have any questions, to give us a call at 931-520-5250,” Coons said. “We’ll take a look in the system and see what we have for you.”

Coons said the city does not accept installment payments, asking for property tax payments to be made in full.

“We accept cards, there is a 2.75 convenience fee for cards,” Coons said. “The other option is to pay online through the tennesseetrustee.org website, if you pay with a card there’s a 2.75 percent convenience fee or you  can pay online with an eCheck and that is a flat $2.75 convenience fee.”

Coons said that if someone is paying in office, they accept cash, check or money order as well. He said the after hours drop box is for checks and money order.

Coons said the city provides an online tax calculator, allowing people to find out what they owe on either their residential or commercial properties. He said the tax rate is the same for each type of property but they will have different assessment values.
