Cookeville Police will begin ticketing parked cars on North Cedar Avenue this week.
The city recently removed all on-street parking between West Broad Street and West 2nd Street and replaced it with new bicycle lanes. The city plans to strictly enforce the appropriate use of bicycle lanes for the safety of cyclists. All vehicles parked in bicycle lanes will be ticketed.
The removal of parking was part of Phase II of the North Cedar Avenue Streetscape Project. The project includes the addition of five new parking lots within the North Cedar area, three of which have been created. Some 110 new spots will be available in the neighborhood when the project is complete, with 89 added spaces open in the meantime.
