Cookeville PD: Don’t Wave Drivers Through

Sometimes, being neighborly while driving isn’t a good thing.

Cookeville Police Major Carl Sells said drivers should beware if they wave another driver into traffic from a parking lot. Under state law, if there’s an accident, you could be held liable.

Sometimes drivers will wave or gesture to another driver, signaling its clear to enter traffic from a parking lot. Sells said people in Tennessee are friendly and want to help, but that slows down the flow of traffic and can be a hazard.
