Cookeville Passes Ordinance To Overhaul Public Parking Regulations

The Cookeville City Council passed on first reading Thursday night an ordinance to overhaul the city’s public parking regulations.

“All of this is to open up more parking spaces, especially in our downtown region, so that people can continue to shop and eat there,” Cookeville Mayor Ricky Shelton said. “We just want to make sure they are not commandeered for a long period of time when they are not doing what they actually intended to do.”

The ordinance gives police more authority to enforce the regulations, raises parking violation fines by $5, and prohibits certain vehicles from parking in public parking areas.
