Cookeville Movie Nights In The Park Return

Families searching for safe summer fun can visit Dogwood Park for free movies.

Cookeville’s annual After Dark Movies In The Park event is returning, but with some changes. Leisure Services Director Rick Woods said spaces six feet apart will be made to encourage social distancing.

“The movies are free,” Woods said. “It’s a really fun time, it’s a great atmosphere, it’s fun to be outside. We do encourage people to wear masks as they arrive and if they’re getting up and moving around to try to remain and maintain six feet of separation between parties.”

Woods said event adjustments will determine how successful the first movie night is. He said this event is available to the public every Friday evening in June.

Public health and safety is the department’s main concern, Woods said.

“We’re going to do everything we can to ensure that people are following the social distancing recommendations and doing everything they can to protect others. We also want to make sure that we provide opportunities for people to be outdoors and enjoying life in our community.”

Representative Ryan Williams began After Dark In The Park several years ago. Woods said Williams continues to support the event.
