Cookeville Man Killed, Three Others Injured In Crash

A 20-year-old Cookeville man died and three others suffered injuries during a crash on Highway 70 East in Cumberland County Thursday morning.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol identified the deceased driver as Shawn M. Kinnett. Authorities identified the injured passengers as 21-year-old Katelyn J. McCracken of Algood, 18-year-old Makenzi R. Key of Crossville and a 17-year-old male from Algood.

A THP report said the crash happened when Kinnett was negotiating a left-hand curve in a 2012 Nissan Altima. The report stated the vehicle went off the right-hand side of the road before crossing back across the highway and landing on an embankment.

The report indicates all four occupants may have been drinking when the accident occurred.

UPDATE: The THP has identified a third passenger who suffered injuries as 18-year-old Makenzi R. Key of Crossville. The story previously only mentioned two injured passengers.
