A Thursday morning crash in Smith County has claimed the life of a 38-year-old Cookeville man.
The crash happened on Interstate 40 westbound at mile marker 254.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol has identified the deceased as Matthew Baggett.
According to a THP crash report, Baggett was driving a 2002 Buick that crashed into the rear of a tractor trailer, driven by 32-year-old Kelly King of Knoxville.
Officials said the crash occurred when the tractor trailer began slowing down for an oncoming construction zone.
Authorities pronounced Baggett dead at the scene. King suffered injuries and his condition remains unknown.
