A Cookeville man faces charges after nearly striking a police officer with a vehicle Friday.
The Aglood police Department charged 24-year-old Zachary Ross Hampshire with driving under the influence and reckless endangerment.
Arrest warrants state officers came in contact with Hampshire after responding to a verbal altercation at Speedway.
Warrants indicate the officer approached Hampshire after spotting him striking his vehicle. That’s when Hampshire put his car in reverse and nearly struck the officer.
The officer was able to apprehend Hampshire at the scene. Hampshire refused to perform field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest.
Hampshire has since posted his $3,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court July 29.
