Cookeville Man Accused Of Stealing From Local Fraternal Organization

A Cookeville man is out on bond after being accused of stealing more than $23,000 from a local fraternal order.

55-year-old Stephen Dean Mayberry posted $10,000 bond Monday after being booked into the Putnam County Jail. Mayberry faces one count of theft over $10,000.

District Attorney Bryant Dunaway asked the TBI to investigate the missing money and account discrepancies in December, 2019. Special agents found Mayberry served as the treasurer of the Cordell Hull Lodge 10 of the Fraternal Order of Police when the missing money was discovered.

According to its Facebook page, Cordell Hull Lodge 10 brings together law enforcement officers, both current and retired, from the Upper Cumberland region.
