Cookeville Looking To Settle Tennessee Ave. Cases

The Cookeville City Council has voted to use left over Tennessee Avenue funds for right-of-way condemnation negotiations.

Cookeville Attorney Dan Radar said 11 of the 39 total condemnation cases remain active.

“Chancellor Ron Thurman is going to do a mediation on all those 11 on October 17th and 18th,” Radar said. “We are going to try to settle those with the judge rather than have a trial.”

The city received a total of $4 million from the Tennessee Department of Transportation to build the road. The remaining $68,000 in will be used to negotiate the cases.

Tennessee Avenue connects Interstate 40 with Highway 70 in Cookeville.
