Cookeville Leisure Services has opened registration for kickball teams to begin play Sept. 25.
Athletics Superintendent Jim Crea said he was impressed by the number of people who were interested in the league following a successful meeting Thursday.
“After talking to several people who have played the game or went to tournaments and things like that, and putting it on Facebook and seeing the response we got from that,” Crea said, “18 to 20 people showed up last night. I’m very pleased.”
Crea said those in attendance for Thursday’s kickball meeting were so confident in creating enough teams, Leisure Services created a team registration deadline for Tuesday, Sept. 18 for people to sign up.
“The ones that were here last night were enthusiastic,” Crea said, “and even though we have a quick deadline, the entry fee only being $150, they said they could get it together real quick. That’s why we set a Tuesday [registration] deadline.”
A coaches meeting will take place Sept. 20 at 6 p.m. to discuss the league’s season and rules once teams are created. Teams must have at least three women and no more than seven men.
Teams are encouraged to visit the Cane Creek SportsPlex office to register for the league.
