Cookeville HS Students Sees A Need For More Sidewalks, Bike Trails

A Cookeville High School student is creating a petition asking for more bike trails and sidewalks in Cookeville.

Senior Mac Mackie said as a biking hobbyist, he has found limited paved options to ride.

“I’ve always loved riding bikes on vacation with my family, but we’ve never had too much of a chance in Cookeville because we really only have that one depot trail,” Mackie said. “So I though it would be really good to get more bike paths or just sidewalks around to be able to experience more of the outdoors.”

Mackie said if he had a chance to speak with a local official about the issue, he would encourage them to use other cities as examples. Mackie said Capshaw Woods would be his suggestion to construct more pedestrian options.

“I like to take walks over there

“They only see this one bike trail,” Mackie said. “They have to go to it every time they want to ride a bike. I think it would open up some more options especially if it is closest to somebody’s house and the distance might be two

Mackie said so far, the response to his cause has been light. Mackie said that may change with a local bike club president inviting him to join.
