Cookeville HS Girl’s Lacrosse To Head To State Semifinals

Cookeville High School Girls Lacrosse team heads to state semifinals Friday.

Lady Cavs Lacrosse head coach Resa Roberts said it has been a really strong season for her girls ending with an overall record of 14 and 1, and 4 and 0 in the district. She said her team built strength and momentum throughout the season but she does not predict an outcome this weekend.

“Honestly it’s a toss-up,” Roberts said. “We’re currently ranked number 2 in the state. But all four teams will definitely have a strong showing. I know that my girls are capable of taking the victory and winning the state championship. It just depends on which team shows up for the state tournament.”

Roberts said the team has put in the work all year and that is their focus going into this weekend.

Roberts said the team has been watching film and preparing for each of the teams they are going to come up against.

“And we know at the end of the day, if it goes in our favor or not, we’ve done all that we can to secure the victory,” Roberts said.

Roberts said there will be a sendoff party from the high school tomorrow going down Washington Avenue around 10:40 am.

“We’ll head to Seymour High School tomorrow for the semi-final game,” Roberts said.  “And the winner of that plays the championship game on Saturday at 11:00 am.

Roberts said the team was excited about the sport starting to gain traction in the area. She said they would be TSSAA sanctioned in 2025.

“So this season is really putting girl’s lacrosse on the map,” Roberts said.
