The Cookeville History Museum is preparing for its eighth annual Christmas Forest exhibit to celebrate local non-profits, clubs, and civic organizations during the holidays.
The exhibit allows the local groups to design their own custom Christmas trees that are displayed in an exhibit at the museum for the whole month of December. Museum Manager Beth Thompson said the event began as a way to help these groups get their mission out to the public.
“We just wanted to make sure that the people who are doing good in our community were able to get the word out about what they do and also get some of that recognition that they deserve,” Thompson said.
Thompson said the museum already has 14 trees lined up, with up to 20 unique trees expected by the time the exhibit opens.
“We’ve had some really elaborate and beautiful trees from some really fabulous groups that are out there,” Thompson said.
For those unable to go to the museum, the museum’s Facebook page will have an album with pictures of all of the different trees. There will be an opening reception for the exhibit from 4-6 pm on November 30.
“We put a picture of each tree and they definitely compete for who gets the most likes,” Thompson said.
