Cookeville High School’s Hope Roberson is a semifinalist for the National Merit Scholarship.
Less than one percent of high school seniors nationwide make it to he semifinal level. Roberson had to take a Preliminary SAT Test to qualify for the scholarship. About 95 percent of semifinalists make to the finals. About half of the finalists get awarded the scholarship and also get the title of Merit Scholar.
Roberson plans to pursue a career in nursing and has her list of schools down to three choices. She recently scored a perfect 36 on her ACT.
Roberson will be competing for 7,140 National Merit Scholarships. Winners of the scholarship money will be announced next spring.
