Cookeville High Athletic Director Eyes Indoor Softball Hitting Facility

Cookeville High School wants to add an indoor softball facility.

Currently the softball team shares a facility with the the baseball team. Athletic Director Adam Kefauver said he has gotten permission to take bids and has spoken to architects and other contractors. Kefauver said the conversations he has had with contractors has gone well.

“Weather in Tennessee is so unpredictable with rain and cold,” Kefauver said. “You know, having an easy access facility on those inclement weathers days, or days it’s just too cold to be outside would be extremely beneficial for them to get their practices and reps in inside of something that’s out of the weather.”

Kefauver said he hopes before the spring softball season ends to have the beginning phase complete, with a building up and shelled in. He said optimistically the facility will be done in the Summer of 2024.

“Any time you’re doing a building on the school property it just requires a little extra oversight and a little more attention to detail as far as how you go about the process, but I expect it to go smooth,” Kefauver said.

The building is being funded primarily through fundraising efforts.

“Our Softball Coach Jordan Webb has worked really hard this year on getting this off the ground and going,” Kefauver said. “I’ve tried to help him as much as I can, but he’s reached out to a lot of businesses and trying to get the word out that this is a plan of ours and a goal. So, he’s reached out to a few business and local businesses in the community who’s been willing to donate some money and there doing fundraiser projects.”

Kefauver said they need all the donations they can get to fund the project. He said if anyone in the community wants to help they should reach out.

“I’m glad that we’re getting this out there for the community so they know it’s something that we’re working on, and we’ll take any help we can get once this project gets started and going,” Kefauver said. “I’m sure Coach Webb will be doing other fundraisers or will take any help he can get as far as financial to get this accomplished.”
