Cookeville First United Methodist Church plans to close their food pantry and offer emergency food pick ups starting Tuesday.
Director of Servant Ministries Tamika Parker said the emergency food pick ups will be by appointment only.
“There is still a need in the community for folks who do not have food,” Parker said. “So we are trying to meet emergency food needs, and people that are in a severe need for food. You will have to get to us to get your food. We can not deliver food. You will have to call for an appointment.”
Residents needing service can call 526-2177 to set up an appointment.
Parker said the church wants to limit the number of people on the property to reduce the COVID-19 spread. More than 100 people can show up on food pantry days.
When you arrive to pick up your food, basic information such as your name and phone number will be on the package.
“They will have no one on one contact with anyone,” Parker said. “When we set up your appointment, we will give you all the details on how you would pick up your food. It will probably be set outside, and we will give you the location, where is is set.”
