Cookeville FD Dispatched after Lightning Causes Electrical Damage

A lightning strike blew the outlets out of a Park West Subdivision home Saturday.

Cookeville Fire Chief Daryl Blair said they dispatched at 6:49 AM after lightning hit a tree, traveling into a Madison Place home. Blair said they arrived on scene and could not see any damage to the home.

Upon further investigation, Blair said several breakers had been tripped, and the electrical meter was pulled from the home by fire crews.

“We just double checked with our thermal energy cameras,” Blair said. “We checked upstairs and down in the basement and also checked some neighbors beside them to make sure. Because when lightning strikes, you don’t really know how far it’s going to run, and it was very, very fortunate that nobody is hurt in this instance.”

Blair said there were no injuries and no structure damage they could find. He said they advised the homeowners to contact a certified electrician to further evaluate the electrical damage.
