Free Expo Saturday Shares Tips On Dealing With Emergencies

The Upper Cumberland will get the chance to learn Emergency Preparedness at a free Expo on Saturday at the Cane Creek Sports Complex.

The Expo comes as part of National Preparedness Month. Assessment and Planning Coordinator Rachel Nichols said that the expo will help prepare citizens to navigate disasters and emergencies.

“Days like these are important to the community so we can educate the communities and our families,” Nichols said. “Make sure that they have what they need to be prepared for emergencies, so they know what to do, what kind of supplies to have on hand, and who they can call when they need something.”

The event happens from 10-2. Nichols said that the most relevant emergencies the expo will be training for are weather-related. However, citizens will also be able to receive instruction on what to do during personal and medical emergencies, Nichols said.

“It’ll be set up kind of like a fair or a carnival,” Nichols said. “They’ll just come in, hit the booths that they’re interested in, they’ll be doing child fingerprinting, they will have food trucks and all kinds of set up to show equipment.”

Nichols said that there will also be over 40 different booths set up by various organizations and private citizens. Nichols said these booths will host resources that can be offered by the owners to the public in the event of an emergency situation.

“To put an event together like the expo that’s happening this weekend on September 16th, it takes a lot of planning and reaching out to community partners securing the venues and the vendors that we have lined up,” Nichols said. “A lot of this starts happening in January.”

The event takes place from 10am-2pm.
