The Cookeville City Council approved a 1-year contract extension for the Tennessee Central Heritage Rail Trail.
The contract allows for shrubs to be monitored for health after a little more than 800 shrubs died during dry conditions last year.
Crews have already replaced the shrubs, which act as a soft barrier between the railroad tracks and the 4.2 mile trail that runs from the Cookeville Depot the Algood ball fields.
The contract extension allows for a nine month establishment period for the shrub replacement and it will not cost the city any additional funds.
