Cookeville City Council will consider amending an ordinance that would help reinforce speed limits within the city limits.
City Manager Mike Davidson said the amendment would require speed limits to be 30 mph if no signage indicates otherwise.
“We actually had a citation issued several months ago and the city judge postponed court for a second, got hold of me, and said ‘I know that’s in the ordinance, where’d it go,'” Davidson said. “I told him yeah, it’s in there, but nobody could ever find it. We want to get that back in the ordinance so we know the speed limit is 30 unless it’s otherwise posted.”
Council will vote on the amendment during Thursday’s meeting beginning at 5:30 p.m.
