Cookeville City Court will resume Tuesday, June 2 at 9 a.m. at the Cookeville Performing Arts Center.
City Court Clerk Cheryl Chambers said the court was moved to CPAC because the extra space assists with social distancing.
Chambers said all of the details have not been worked out, but she said no more than 10 people will be in the courtroom at a time, keeping with state and CDC guidelines. She also said masks are optional but encouraged.
Cookeville’s City Court typically meets every Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the Cookeville Municipal Building on Broad Street. Court has not been in session since Governor Bill Lee’s Safer at Home Order in March, but the office has been open to accept payment for traffic tickets.
In Tennessee, city courts hear cases involving violations of municipal ordinances. The most common citations are speeding tickets or traffic violations, but they also hear code violations and safety ordinances, as well.
Chambers said officials will reassess in June whether or not to resume normal operations.
