Cookeville City Council Will Consider Professional Design Services Contract For Fire Station 1

Cookeville City Council set to take the next steps on the renovations of Fire Station One.

City Manager James Mills told the council at Monday night’s work session that the city retained the services of a company to do an assessment of the fire hall and a preliminary floor plan. He said he is asking the council to consider entering a contract for professional design services.

“There are several different reasons we needed to have renovations done to Station 1 first,” Mills said. “Number one it is the flagship, so it was determined that it should be the highest priority.”

Mills said he and Fire Chief Benton Young had also identified needs for renovation at Stations 2 and 3.

Mills said the company will take the city through the whole process, from plans to bidding to construction. He said the city had budgeted some $300,000 in this year’s budget for the renovations.

“They did do a floor plan we believe is satisfactory and will better serve the needs of the fire department,” Mills said.
