Cookeville City Council still expected to have its regularly scheduled meeting on election day, August 4th.
City Clerk Darian Coons said that the next council will ideally be sworn in at the next regularly scheduled meeting.
“It’s all dependent upon when the election gets certified,” Coons said. “So as long as the election gets certified and there are no problems before the second meeting in August we should hopefully get everyone sworn in then.”
Coons said if the elections are not officially by the second meeting in August, the next council will be sworn in at the first September meeting. He said the previous city council will begin that meeting, and then the session is adjourned.
The new council is then brought in, sworn in, and it finishes out that meeting.
