Cookeville Breakfast Rotary Golf Classic Funding Efforts To Help Kids

The 38th annual Cookeville Breakfast Rotary Golf Classic has tee time registrations open for Saturday’s event.

Vice President Rachel Moses said this is the group’s biggest fundraiser. Moses said money goes towards youth oriented projects for kids in crisis and kids excelling.

“If we are not supportive of them and supportive of their goals and their dreams and then help show them the importance of community service and giving back to their community,” Moses said. “If we don’t instill that in them now, then it could be lost in the future and so we want to preserve our future for everyone.”

Moses said the golf classic and helping kids are two of the breakfast rotary’s oldest traditions. She said funds will go to support things like the dictionary project, providing a dictionary to every third grader in Putnam County.

“To see these third graders get their dictionary and then they realize that this is their dictionary that they can keep for the rest of their life,” Moses said. “They put their name in it and they can look through it, learn words, learn synonyms, learn antonyms. They can also in the back of the dictionary, they look up the maps of the world and it’s just really inspiring.”

Moses said the only ways to register are by either calling or visiting the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagle Golf Club by Friday. She said they will get a Saturday tee time and paired up over 18 holes.

“The Swallows Agency has donated some hole-in-one prizes for the tournament this year,” Moses said. “So on every par three, and I think there’s five par three holes. There is a chance for a team to win $1,000 prize if they do get a hole-in-one.”

She said the first tee time is set for 7:00 AM, with awards and a championship prize on the line. Moses said that Sunday tee times will be based on how well pairs perform on Saturday.
