The Cookeville City Council has approved the purchase of a new utility billing system.
The new system with Southeastern Data Cooperative will allow customers to pay bills from a smart phone or tablet and receive bills by emails. Mayor Ricky Shelton.
“We live in a mobile society and this brings this portion of our city up into current technology,” Mayor Ricky Shelton said. “I’m excited about that for our customers and especially those who want to use that as their means of paying bills and accessing their account.”
The one time set-up cost for the new system will be $117,000 plus a monthly fee of about $5,260.
City officials said the current billing software doesn’t use current technology and has not kept up with TVA changes.
