A new sewer project in the Cane Creek area will remove from service two old facilities and allow for future growth
Cookeville City Council, the Putnam County School System, and Highlands Residential Services are jointly working on the new pump station. It will be located on the Cane Creek Elementary School property.
Water Quality Control Director Barry Turner said HRS will lead the project and Cookeville will ultimately operate the pump station.
“It picks up their development and now the school board won’t be having to operate and maintain a pump station,” Turner said. “And our existing pump station was about 50 years old so we’ll still be operating one pump station but it will be a new pump station.”
Turner said the city has invested about $100,000, with the school system and Highlands Residential also contributing. He said Highlands Residential is also responsible for the design and implementation of the new pump station.
Turner said he does not know the exact timeline for the pump station’s implementation, but that Highlands Residential is moving quickly on completing its development.
