Comptroller’s Office Recommends Celina Tax Hike

The Tennessee Comptroller’s Office is recommending that Celina increases its property tax by six cents for the next fiscal year.

Mayor Tonya Spears said the increase will be up to the Board of Aldermen once the budgeting process begins.

“We received that the other day, and we thought we better just go ahead and mention that to our council,” Spears said. “It’s just one of those things that people don’t want to talk about, but it’s just one of those things.”

According to a memorandum from the Comptroller’s Office, the suggestion comes after this year’s appraisal ratio study for Clay County. The current rate for Celina is about 87 cents.
