Community Event At The Community Complex Crossville Needs Volunteers Saturday

We Are One will hand out 103,000 pounds of food, 5,000 pairs of shoes, and 4,000 hot meals on Saturday at the Cumberland County Community Complex.

Board Member Jason Sitton said he participated in a community disaster relief effort last year. Sitton said members of his Bible study started asking when they were doing the relief program this year. Sitton said when they found out there was no yearly program, they asked a crazy question: Can we just do it?

“Everything that we have touched has tripled,” Sitton said. “So everything has really blown up and it’s larger than anything we have ever been a part of and we have zero experience. God is literally leading this event.”

Sitton said the one thing they need more of is volunteers. He said they will have a hospitality group to walk around, ensure people are seen and heard, and serve people from the water stations.

Sitton said along with consumables, the event will offer services including addiction counseling, information from Habitat for Humanity, Veterans Services, and prayer.

“We will have a tent set up,” Sitton said. “We will be asking if there’s anything we could pray for them or pray with them about. If they would like to be connected with a local church or if they are new here and do not have a church family, we will be offering that as well before they leave.”

The Community Event at the Community Complex 1398 Livingston Road, Crossville, takes place Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
