Come to Jackson For the First Annual Row’n the River Race

Jackson Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a river race and fun float in Gainesboro on Saturday, July 15.

Executive Director Hope Vargas said there will be a competitive five mile kayak race at 8 am from The Boils to Roaring River Park.

Vargas said the fun float will start at 9 am from the Rock Dam to Roaring River Park. The water events will be followed with awards for the race, free music and food.

“And we want people to get out and enjoy our green spaces,” Vargas said. “And we thought why not have some sort of kayaking event. And there’s nothing like this in the area. We thought it would be something different and exciting to add to their schedule.”

Vargas said she anticipates competitive kayakers will find their way to Jackson. She said it is definitely an exciting event that offers a new river to competitors and amateurs.

She said more importantly the community will  have an opportunity to get together.

“And maybe pull them off the lake towards the end of July and let them experience something different,” Vargas said.

Vargas said you do not have to be a kayaker to enjoy this event.

“Just show up at about 1 pm and enjoy the music and food and enjoy some time with your community,” Vargas said.

Vargas said  TWRA and US Army Corps members will be onsite as supporting organizations. She said everyone was excited to bring something new to the area.

Row’n The River Race and Fun Float will take place Sat July 15 in Gainesboro. You can get more information and register at ExploreJCTN.com.
