Cold Compresses Best For Sunburns

If you spent a little too much time in the sun this weekend, a cold compress is just what the doctor ordered.

Cookeville Dermatologist Dr. Lisa Whiteaker said care for sunburns isn’t much different than care for any other burn.

“A sunburn is a real burn, just like you know if you burnt yourself on the iron or burnt yourself cooking. Cold compresses are valuable or an over the counter pain reliever such as Motrin if it’s compatible with your other medicines and approved by your primary care provider,” Whiteaker said.

If you have multiple blisters, that’s a second degree sunburn and you should visit a healthcare provider, Whiteaker said.
