Clay County Schools are asking parents to complete an Internet access survey.
The survey includes questions about Internet connectivity for student households. Curriculum Supervisor Misty Strong said the purpose is to gauge Internet needs in the district.
“We are trying to put a percentage on how many of our students have Internet access at their residence,” Strong said. “And out of those students who have Internet access, is it access only on a mobile device or is it on a desktop, laptop or other device.”
Strong said the district will use the information to see how many students can use live instructional learning sessions. Clay County teachers started live streaming classes Monday, so students from home can participate in real time.
“It is synchronis learning,” Strong said. “For example, if you have a math class that is happening at 8 o’clock for fifth grade. Then the fifth grade virtual learner would be able to log in to that math class and participate live with the rest of the class learning at school.”
Some 200 students are currently learning from home. All core academic classes are now streaming. Strong said the synchronis learning gives in person and virtual learners the same academic opportunities.
“We have had a phased in and implementation schedule,” Strong said. “We have implemented thirds of the district, and we have added on every other day until we have all of our grade levels live.”
The survey may be found on each school’s website or at each school’s front office. The survey asks for the student’s name, which school he or she attends and two yes or no questions about connectivity.
