Clay School Board Approves Bids For K-8 Kitchen Project; New Roofs

Clay County School Board moved three building projects forward Thursday accepting construction bids.

Roof repairs at both Hermitage Springs School and the School Board building approved. The board also approved the construction numbers on the kitchen at Celina K-8. Board Chair Benji Bailey said the system ready to get that project finished.

“It’s something that we’ve been, we’ve identified earlier on in the last couple years as something we needed to address just because of the crowding at that school,” Bailey said. “It’s our largest school by population. We have more kids there than we do any building.”

The approved bid on the kitchen renovation only accounts for the construction of the kitchen, not the new equipment that will be needed. Bids to handle the kitchen equipment are due by October 5. W&O Construction will do the work on the kitchen.

“There will be some periods where we will have to switch over, and we may have to provide some alternative lunches, whether it be bag lunches or something to that degree in order to get everything switched,” Bailey said.

Bailey said they hope to complete the project by next August.

The two roofing projects will both be handled by Turner Roofing.

The Board also approved the purchase of two 48-passenger school buses, both equipped with camera systems inside of them.
