Clay Replacing Ambulance Through Grant Funding

Clay County will be getting a new ambulance to replace an aging vehicle in the EMS fleet.

County Mayor Dale Reagan said the grant funding allowing the purchase comes at a good time considering recent issues with vehicles.

“A year and a half ago I guess it was we had an accident, and it took one of our older units out,” Reagan said. “We were able to replace that with a used unit. Its turned out to make us a good unit, but this is a twin to the one in the accident, so it is one of our older unit. It is already having issues.”

Reagan said he expects the new ambulance to be in-service by the end of the year. Reagan said with no hospital in Clay County, the added equipment is even more important acting as an emergency room for patients.

“We’re very excited about that,” Reagan said. “Once we get the bids in and everything, we’re still looking at it not making runs until the last of this year. We’re going to put that to good use, because our ambulance over here since the hospital left, they are our emergency room.”

Clay County received some $206,000 through a Community Development Block Grant announced last week.
