Clay Library Awarded Twin Lakes Grant For Solar Charging Benches

The Clay County Library is the recipient of some $5,000 in grant money from Twin Lakes.

Director Judith Cutright said that the funding will be used to purchase solar-powered charging benches for outside the library.

“We had a purchased a solar-charging table last year through another grant and it is very widely-used,” Cutright said. “There is not a day that goes by that someone does not use the table that we have. So we thought adding a few benches would make it a little more accessible.”

Cutright said that she applied for the funding through the Foundation for Rural Service Community Grant with Twin Lakes at the end of last summer. She said that grant dollars like this are fundamental to the success of the library.

“They make up a large percentage of our budget,” Cutright said. “We could not serve our public as well as we do without the commitment of places like Twin Lakes and other grant opportunities.”

Cutright said that the library board approved the purchase Monday night. She said that the next steps are to confirm it with the county mayor and move forward with the purchase. She said that she hopes the benches will arrive in a few months.
