As of 3 p.m. Wednesday, Clay County EMS has officially received its provisional licensure to operate ambulances and provide emergency medical services.
Acting Director Andy Hall said they have worked all day long to make this possible. He said the department even had one team member drive the paperwork directly to Nashville to speed up the process in person.
“My employees have worked tirelessly to try to keep up and try to keep the ambulance service staffed and everything like that,” Hall said. “My mind is still 100 different places. There’s still a long way to go as far as paperwork and stuff like that.”
Hall said he wants to thank his family, his employees, and the community for their constant support as the events of the last three days unfolded. He said the EMS employees did not leave the community, but did their best to make sure that if they were not driving the trucks, someone else was.
Hall said as soon as employees found out about the changes, they went right back to work. He said they currently have two ambulances fully staffed and fully equipped.
“There’s going to be a lot of paperwork involved to get our numbers and stuff like that,” Hall said. “And the county and all those guys they know this is not an easy process and this is not a cheap process, but it’s one that commissioners were willing to take on to make sure their citizens were good. And I hold them up to the highest respect that in a time of trouble they took over and they said ‘Let’s do this.'”
