Clay County Schools Resurfacing Central Office Parking Lot

The Clay County Board of Education approved a quote to resurface the central office’s parking lot.

Chairperson Benji Bailey said the costs of the resurfacing would depend on the materials used but he expects it to cost about $30,000. Bailey said the parking lot’s quality was diminished after the central office building’s gutter project was completed a few months ago.

“After the gutter project, there was obviously dirt and gravel,” Bailey said. “Everything is not as even as it was before and so it was beyond repair anyway, so it’s just a good time to address the situation.”

Bailey said the resurfacing project will be done with tar and chipping which consists of compacting stone chips into hot tar to make a more durable surface. Bailey said the county is helping the school system get the project done for a lower price.

“We will be paying and reimbursing them based on the contracted prices they have with their bidders,” Bailey said. “So we will be paying for it but the county is just helping us get it done.”

Bailey said resurfacing the parking lot should help those working at the office in more ways than one.

“It will make it easier for our staff that work here,” Bailey said. “It will level up some uneven places, also it will help with water flow and things that we have struggled with in the past.”

Bailey said a start date has not been set but the initial target is October. Bailey said the project date will depend on the county’s schedule.
