The Clay County Schools will start the school year on time August 1.
School Board members decided Thursday night to move forward with a normal start to the semester. School Director Matt Eldridge said social distancing and frequent sanitizing will be the new normal for students returning to school.
“There’s basically two options: you could either come back on time with precautions, or you’re going to open back up on an alternating day basis,” Eldridge said. “You can do virtual school with the ones at home while the other half are in the school.”
Eldridge said if families are not comfortable sending their children to school, students can remain at home and learn virtually.
“I think it’s still going to be better to be in school as much as possible, right there in that classroom,” Eldridge said. “We’ll try to do the best we can. When we do this, they’re all still going to see the teachers, they’re all still going to be able to ask questions and do those things. It’s kinda new for all of us, and we’re going to do the best we can with it.”
