Clay County officials have something to cheer about.
County Mayor Dale Reagan said the Tennessee Corrections Institute Board voted in Nashville last week to re-certify the Clay County Jail.
“They re-certified for another year based off our plan of action and minimum progress we are making toward the process of building a new jail,” Reagan said. ” Me and the sheriff feel good about the progress and I feel like we are heading in the right direction.”
If the jail had not been re-certified the sheriff’s office could have lost state funding and not been able to house state inmates, which would be a loss of revenue to the county.
