Clay County High School’s CTE Organization is hosting the Fall Harvest Food Drive in honor of Ms. Latisha Denton.
The food drive will last until the end of the school day on November 14th, with all donations going to the less fortunate. Clay County High School Principal Mike Dickerson said teachers are asking students to donate food and cooking products. Dickerson said donations are then dispersed by Community In Schools Coordinator Tish Plumlee in Ms. Denton’s memory.
“We had the food drive prior to, but this was something that we did in her memory,” Dickerson said. “Because this is a CTE organization and she was our FCCLA coordinator, who is within the CTE program. So it just fit.”
Dickerson said citizens can also participate by sending donations to the school’s front office. Dickerson said that each grade level has a list of items they are consistently encouraged by teachers to bring in for the food drive.
“We have a very good staff here at Clay County High School that are community-driven,” Dickerson said. “We know this benefits those in need in our community.”
Dickerson said that the school is also trying to teach its students that it’s good to be a decent human being and help those in need.
“It’s always good to give and to lend a helping hand,” Dickerson said. “We never know, we may be the one on the receiving end of a helping hand.”
Dickerson said items being asked for the food drive include canned corn, cooking oil, brown gravy mix, instant potatoes, and powdered milk. Dickerson said he and the staff are proud of the efforts the school is making to positively impact Clay County.
