Clay County Fair Kicks Off Fair Season Tuesday

The Clay County Fair in Celina kicks off the Upper Cumberland fair season Tuesday night.

Fair President Carla Rich said the fair is the largest annual gathering of Clay County Residents. She said it is a great time of fellowship for the community.

“I think it’s just an opportunity for folks to see each other, to visit, to have fun together,” Rich said. “To show off their skills and get to see what other people specialize in, in the exhibit hall.”

Rich said new events at this year’s fair include a magic show and cooking competitions. She said there will also be a Wrestling Show Wednesday night. She said there will still be a focus on agriculture throughout the week, as is tradition.

“Each night we are going to have events happening in our barn,” Rich said. “We’re going to be having a goat show, sheep shows, swine shows, we’re going to be having two nights of horse shows, a rodeo, and a beef heifer show. We’ll also be having an animal petting zoo.”
She said there will also be events happening over the weekend in the lead-up to the fair.

“This Saturday we will be having a marble tournament, and a pageant at our fairgrounds,” Rich said.

The fair will be at the Clay County Fairgrounds on Arcott Road in Celina from Tuesday to Saturday. Rich said gates open at 4 pm nightly, with the carnival beginning at 6. She said school-aged children can get in free and get discounted wristbands for the carnival on Tuesday and Thursday.
